About The Role

R ole: Senior Android Developer – Automotive HMI Location: IBC Knowledge Park Reporting to: Technical Lead - Android Applications Team name: Software Development / Dash About the Team and the Role The Dash team at Ather is responsible for building next-generation digital dashboards for smart 2-wheeler vehicles, operating on customized Android Open Source Project (AOSP) environments across varied hardware specs to interface directly with vehicle systems in real time. This role is for a Senior Android Developer with strong technical skills and a leading mindset to work on HMI applications, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to build an exceptionally responsive, feature-rich rider experience. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain high-performance HMI UI applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and XML tailored for constrained automotive hardware. Leverage custom AOSP environments, application lifecycle management, IPC mechanisms like AIDL, threads, and background services to consume and render real-time vehicle data. Build and optimize Bluetooth connectivity, voice features, and seamless synchronization with dedicated mobile companion applications. Integrate and optimize web/JS-based embedded map solutions (such as Google Maps) for smooth performance on dashboard displays. Implement and manage MQTT-based messaging, WebSockets, and REST APIs for real-time telemetry, cloud sync, background data processing, and Over-The-Air (OTA) update flows. Drive UI smoothness, memory management, and rendering efficiency, utilizing code profiling tools and memory leak identification (e.g., Profiler, LeakCanary) in resource-constrained environments. Lead code reviews, enforce best practices, mentor mid/junior engineers, and translate complex product requirements into clean, scalable architecture. Collaborate with embedded systems engineers, middleware developers, hardware/firmware teams, and UI/UX designers using Git and structured bug-tracking workflows to bring end-to-end features to life. Experience and Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field 5 to 8 years of native Android development experience Must Have Competencies Advanced proficiency in native Android application development using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and legacy XML UI design. Deep technical expertise in custom AOSP environments, system-level architecture, background services, and IPC mechanisms such as AIDL. Extensive experience implementing real-time data protocols and networking solutions using WebSockets, REST APIs, and MQTT messaging frameworks. Proven ability to optimize UI rendering performance, memory management, and code profiling using tools like Android Profiler and LeakCanary on hardware-constrained platforms. Good to have Competencies Hands-on experience developing Automotive HMI systems, connected vehicle architectures, or digital dashboards. Functional understanding of CAN bus protocols and interfacing application layers with Go or C++ microservices. Familiarity with reading hardware sensor data (such as IMU, Gyroscope, and Accelerometer) and building fluid UI animations. Want to know more?
