About The Role
Role: Engineer/Lead - Supplier Quality, Cells and Chemicals Commodity Location: IBC, Bangalore Reporting to: Group Lead SQA Team name: Quality & Supplier Quality About the Team and the Role The Quality & Supplier Quality team at Ather is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of manufacturing quality and driving critical supplier performance metrics across vehicle components and systems. This role is for an Engineer/Lead, Supplier Quality (Cells and Chemicals Commodity) who will play a vital role in monitoring supplier quality, leading non-conformance improvement initiatives, executing quality planning frameworks, and ensuring overall component reliability for EV cells, chemicals, and paints. Responsibilities Monitor key supplier quality metrics including Defective Parts Per Million (PPM), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Straight Pass Ratio (SPR) for cells, chemicals, and paint parts. Drive supplier improvement plans to resolve non-conformities, reduce supplier internal rejections, and improve Straight Pass Ratio (SPR). Log quality issues and deviations while leading containment actions, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). Lead root cause analysis on field failures resulting from process issues, and approve RCA reports and CAPA implementations. Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new or modified parts. Review engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements, and supplier Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to mitigate production risks. Approve supplier measurement systems, CMM programs, and check fixtures to ensure full capability and calibration for critical-to-quality features. Oversee scheduled preventive maintenance and restoration of complete supplier manufacturing and fabrication line setups. Experience and Qualifications B.E. or degree with specialization in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant technical discipline. 8 to 12 years of professional experience in supplier quality engineering, manufacturing quality, or commodity quality management. Must Have Competencies Quality Metrics and Supplier Performance Management: Monitoring key performance indicators such as PPM, NCRs, and SPR to drive continuous supplier quality improvements. APQP, DFM, and PPAP Execution: Driving Advanced Product Quality Planning, Design for Manufacturing, DFA, and PPAP validation across supplier processes. Root Cause Analysis and CAPA: Leading structured problem-solving methodologies for process and field failures, enforcing containment, and approving CAPA reports. Chemical Process and Materials Science Engineering: Utilizing fundamental knowledge of material science, synthesis processes, resin compounding, polymers, and chemical reactions for automotive components. Good to Have Competencies Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA): Evaluating and reviewing supplier DFMEA and PFMEA frameworks to identify and mitigate quality risks prior to mass production. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T): Analyzing engineering drawings, tolerance stacks, and measurement system capabilities including check fixtures and CMM programs. Manufacturing FTG Line Maintenance: Driving scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration, and equipment restoration across supplier manufacturing setups. Automotive EV Battery and Chemical Domain Knowledge: Understanding quality specifications, environmental requirements, and safety standards associated with EV battery cells and chemicals.
