About The Role
Principal Purpose of Job: Assist the Stables Manager & Assistant Stables Manager, with all aspects of the operation. Consistently provide a high level of guest service through a variety of safe, educational & enjoyable Stables’ activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate safe & fun Stables’ activities & events.
- Conduct lessons & teamster operations as required; assist in team penning and cattle drives.
- Consistently provide exceptional guest experiences for all visitors to the Stables.
- Assist with vet care, hoof care and feeding of animals.
- Perform daily housekeeping and facility maintenance duties.
- Undertake Barn Host role when required.
- Groom, tack & un-tack trail animals; harness & un-harness driving animals.
- Book stables’ activities on the reservations system through phone & personal interactions.
- Operate the POS system for ride checkouts and merchandise sales.
- Assist with all ranching duties (fencing, firewood, mineral blocks, hay harvest etc.).
- Assist with tack & harness maintenance.
- Move herd in and out to pasture on horseback.
- Report and aid repair of unsafe trails, fences or hazards.
- Be an ambassador for the ranch in promoting all other departments during guest interactions.
- Assist with all areas of our ongoing herd health program.
Requirements
Personal Attributes
- Outgoing, friendly & responsible with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task and alter priorities at short notice.
- Works well in both a team and as an individual.
- Motivated & mature with ability to remain calm in all situations without direct supervision.
Physical Demands
- Heavy lifting (must be able to lift 75lbs - 100lbs)
- Able to work outside in all elements.
- Physically fit and able to work flexible and demanding hours.
- Reach, bend, twist, pull and stoop; grasp, turn & manipulate objects of varying size & weight.
- Must be able to horseback ride effectively for excess of 8 hours per day.
Education/Experience
- First Aid/CPR certified.
- Have at least five years prior horse experience.
- Background of guiding or teaching desirable.
- Team driving experience a plus.
- Heavy machinery operation a plus.
Special Skills/Equipment
- Proven horsemanship skills.
- Ability to ride advanced and/or green horses at all gaits in a safe & controlled manner.
- Computer literate & confident telephone manner
