About The Role
DescriptionPosition Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays an essential role in supporting high-quality patient care. Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of an RN or LPN, the CNA assists patients with daily living activities, comfort measures, and mobility needs while consistently promoting dignity, independence, and safety. This role is an important part of a collaborative, supportive care team, contributing to a compassionate care environment through careful observation, timely reporting of patient changes, and clear communication with nursing staff. By supporting individualized care plans and organizational standards, CNAs help ensure patients receive consistent, attentive, and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide basic nursing care—such as bathing, toileting, mobility assistance, and vital sign monitoring—according to established procedures and under clinical supervision.
- Support patient comfort and safety by maintaining clean environments, using safe patient-handling techniques, and promptly reporting concerns or changes in condition.
- Assist nursing staff with clinical tasks, documentation needs, and routine care activities to promote efficient unit operations.
- Adapt to varying assignments and unit needs each shift, demonstrating flexibility and effective time management across different patient populations.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with nurses, providers, and other team members to ensure coordinated, patient-focused care and positive patient interactions.
QualificationsLicenses and Certifications Required
- Current North Dakota CNA certification required.
- BLS certification required within orientation period.
Educational Requirements
- Certification required.
- Clerical training preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
Special Skills or Training Requirements
Computer and keyboarding skills.
Physical Requirements
The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and assisting with patient transfers, repositioning, and mobility support. The CNA Float must be able to safely handle moderate physical exertion, including moving equipment and supporting patients with varying levels of dependence. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for carrying out care tasks, monitoring patient conditions, and using basic clinical equipment.
Environmental Requirements
Work is performed across multiple inpatient units with exposure to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, cleaning chemicals, and clinical equipment. The pace may vary depending on unit assignment and patient acuity, requiring adaptability and adherence to safety and infection-control practices. Use of appropriate PPE and compliance with hospital policies are required to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
