Position Summary

Provides direct leadership, management, instruction and motivation for the swim team program. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere for the swim team and for YMCA.

Essential Functions

• Builds effective, authentic relationships with athletes and parents.
• Planning, implementing, scheduling and evaluating all groups of swim team
• Prepare and lead coaching philosophy of the team through use of lesson plans and training/mentoring of assistant coaches
• Effective communication
• Responds appropriately and proactively to parent, athlete, members and staff/volunteer concerns
• Maintains records as required
• Maintain positive working relationships with fellow staff, parents, athletes and members of all ages and backgrounds.
• Provides leadership within the aquatic department
• Remains current in the field through certifications and trainings
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool, aquatic areas and the Y.
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

• Ability to occasionally lift equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs
• Employee frequently is required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, stand, walk
• Practice and Meet environment for multiple hours - loud, standing/sitting in an aquatic environment

QualificationsQualifications

At least 18 years of age

Certifications: CPR/AED & First Aid,

• Must be able to instruct proper stroke techniques
• Strong communication skills - written and verbal
• 2 or more years of swim coaching experience preferred
• Passion for swimming
