Office Location: UVA Administration Center

Work Schedule: This position will be on-site 3-5 days a week.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Educational Diagnostician performs assessments of students to evaluate whether they have learning disorders and qualify for special education services. In this role, the diagnostician also works with special education teachers and other school professionals to develop plans to help students with learning challenges succeed. The diagnostician conducts case-study evaluations, participates in Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings, and designs programs and services that maximize students’ educational success. Additionally, the diagnostician may collaborate with staff on projects and participate in professional development workshops and programs. The person in this role will work under all applicable laws, guidelines, and UVA policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and manages PAS cases as assigned by PAS Facilitator
  • Administers all educational assessments used in student evaluations
  • Reviews and interprets students’ assessment data and effectively communicates the results with students and parents/guardians
  • Review evaluation records of newly admitted students to determine diagnostic needs
  • Serves as an evaluation representative on the SBLC and IEP teams
  • Integrate and disseminate interdisciplinary assessment results
  • Participates in 504 and IEP meetings
  • Monitors completion of case study evaluations
  • Helps staff design and implement interventions and accommodations for students
  • Evaluates and translate research into practice
  • Gives courteous and prompt service to students, parents, and colleagues
  • Supports parents, teachers, students, and the Child Welfare & Attendance team in alleviating excessive absences
  • Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments
  • Performs other duties as assigned
