As the Skills Trainer you will collaborate with youth group home staff and families in Multnomah and Washington counties to support skill development aligned with individualized support plans (ISPs) and treatment objectives for the people we support. This role offers meaningful and engaging opportunities to enhance both mental health and life skills to support youth in leading self-determined lives. You will deliver services across multiple settings, including home and community environments.
This position requires a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Essential Duties
Assists in development and implementation of individualized support plans (ISP) tailored to each youth’s needs and goals
Implements ISP strategies in collaboration with supported youth and their identified supports, including guardians and group home staff
Observes and documents information about the functioning, behavior, and response to interventions of supported youth, providing concise and timely insights to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) within one working day of provided services
Applies youth treatment objectives to appropriate and effective therapeutic behavior support strategies, including crisis response
Prioritizes youth’s personal safety by identifying and addressing risks, notifying appropriate team members or agencies when necessary
Ensures timely and safe transportation of supported youth and their engagement in community activities
Meets productivity standards for all billable activities as set by supervisor
Attends all required team meetings
Maintains a strong working knowledge of youth development and common mental health concerns to provide informed and effective services
Performs other duties as assigned, including temporary assignments, providing similar support across other programs

Qualifications
Eligible to become credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA), meeting Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) requirements through either a bachelor’s degree in human services, social science, or closely related field, or relevant, three-years of work experience
One to three years of experience working with youth in a clinical, educational, or social services setting; experience with mental health and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) preferred
Strong working knowledge of youth development and common mental health concerns with a passion for providing trauma-informed and client-centered services
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including supervisors, clinical staff, school personnel, guardians, and group home staff.
Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions effectively
Demonstrated ability to work independently, make sounds judgements, and adapt to diverse situations.
Understanding of appropriate interventions and activities based on youth’s developmental stage
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical restraints as needed
Ability to meet all background check, credentialling, and agency driving requirements
Driving eligibility includes a current and valid driver’s license, at least two years of verifiable driving experience, and no more than two moving violation infractions in the past two years.
