About The Role
DescriptionPosition Summary
Emory & Henry University, an NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference, seeks a dedicated and energetic Assistant Coach for Tennis (Men’s and Women’s). The successful candidate will assist the Head Coach in managing all aspects of the intercollegiate tennis programs with a strong emphasis on student-athlete development, academic achievement, and competitive success. This is a full-time position that requires a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a passion for tennis and higher education.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and conducting practices, conditioning, and match preparation for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams.
- Provide on-court coaching in both individual and team settings, focusing on technical, tactical, and mental aspects of the game.
- Recruit qualified prospective student-athletes in alignment with the university's academic and athletic standards.
- Support academic development and monitor progress of student-athletes to ensure eligibility and retention.
- Assist with match scheduling, travel arrangements, and team logistics.
- Promote and maintain a positive team culture rooted in integrity, accountability, and sportsmanship.
- Help maintain tennis facilities and equipment.
- Participate in fundraising, alumni relations, and community engagement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA, South Atlantic Conference, and institutional policies.
- Assist with administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Department.
- Salary: $24,000
QualificationsQualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience in tennis.
- Strong knowledge of coaching principles, skill development, and match strategy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
Preferred
- Master’s degree.
- Experience recruiting at the collegiate level.
- Familiarity with video analysis software and recruiting databases.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division II compliance and policies.
Working Conditions
- Requires frequent travel and irregular hours during the season.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Requires lifting and carrying equipment and participating in active demonstrations of techniques.
