Job Description
Position Name: Advanc ed Practice Provider
Reports to: APP Manager

Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive hematology and oncology care in both outpatient and inpatient settings under the supervision and collaboration of the attending physician. The APP is responsible for patient assessment, treatment planning, care coordination, documentation, medication management, inpatient rounding, and clinical support activities while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, licensure, and organizational requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers patient care in a compassionate, professional, and patient-centered manner.
- Performs comprehensive patient evaluations, including obtaining medical histories, conducting physical examinations, assisting in treatment plan development, and providing patient education.
- Works patients up efficiently on the appropriate provider schedule by:
- Obtaining preliminary patient information and medical history.
- Performing physical examinations.
- Assisting with treatment planning and clinical decision-making.
- Entering orders in Ankhos .
- Reviewing, signing, completing, and confirming orders and results.
- Communicating treatment plans to appropriate departments.
- Educating patients and caregivers.
- Ensuring documentation supports services rendered and associated charges.
- Ensuring accurate coding and charge capture.
- Completing patient encounter dictations within 48 hours .
- Manages daily treatment room operations, including:
- Managing window charts.
- Evaluating and managing work-in appointments.
- Assessing patients requiring transfusion support.
- Reviewing and signing EMR encounters and "gone" charts after appropriate review .
- Reviewing, signing, and addressing incoming charts.
- Assisting nursing staff with infusion-related issues, infusion reactions, clinical questions, and triage concerns.
- Monitors assigned tasks within Ankhos to ensure timely completion and follow-up.
- Assists physician providers and fellow Advanced Practice Providers with workload management to promote efficient patient care and clinic operations.
- Documents patient information accurately, concisely, and chronologically using absolute dates .
- Ensures all applicable charges are submitted daily.
- Communicates effectively with ancillary departments, including nursing, laboratory, and scheduling teams, to improve patient flow and minimize wait times.
- Provides inpatient coverage at designated facilities as assigned, including:
- Evaluating and managing inpatient rounding patients.
- Initiating and coordinating inpatient consults.
- Evaluating, documenting, and entering orders for consult patients.
- Ensuring continuity of care for absent physicians.
- Assisting with inpatient documentation and charge capture.
- Documenting critical inpatient information in Ankhos to support continuity of care.
- Serves as a Sub-Investigator for clinical trials and fulfills all applicable research requirements.
- Prescribes medications in accordance with North Carolina Medical Board, North Carolina Board of Nursing, and DEA regulations.
- Prescribes and manages chemotherapy under the supervision of the attending or designated supervising physician.
- Participates in rotating after- hours call coverage, including management of admissions, consults, patient concerns, and required documentation.
- Works rotating schedules with physician providers as assigned.
- Maintains competence in all applicable clinical and office information systems.
- Adheres to established quality assurance, infection prevention, and workplace safety standards.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and all applicable federal, state, local, and professional regulations.
- Participates in continuing education and professional development activities.
- Maintains all required licenses, certifications, registrations, hospital privileges, and credentials.
- Participates in quality improvement and process improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills.
- Organizes and prioritizes responsibilities effectively while consistently meeting established deadlines.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Utilizes time efficiently, meets productivity expectations, and follows established overtime procedures.
- Maintains a professional workplace environment and positive working relationships with patients, providers, staff, and external partners.

- Performs other duties as assigned by physician leadership, the Clinical Administrator, APP Manager, or organizational leadership.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program required .
- Current North Carolina licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required .
- Current DEA registration required .
- Oncology or hematology experience preferred.
- Eligibility for hospital credentialing and privileging required .
Licensure and Certifications
- Current North Carolina Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license.
- NCCPA certification for Physician Assistants, if applicable.
- AANP or ANCC certification for Nurse Practitioners, if applicable.
- DEA registration.
- Maintenance of all required hospital privileges and professional credentials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of oncology and hematology principles, treatments, and supportive care.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with physicians.
- Strong documentation, coding, and charge capture knowledge.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical information systems.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to assist patients and move throughout clinical and hospital environments.
- Ability to utilize computers, medical equipment, and office equipment on a routine basis.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
