Swiss Turning Center Operator - 2nd Shift
Jamestown, NY
Plenty of overtime opportunity
Training will be done on 1st shift
2nd Shift Time after training: 2:30 pm - 11pm
Job Summary: The Turning Center Operator will safely adjust and operate machines in the turning center at a manufacturing facility. The operator will set up and load bar stock into the machine and run quality checks at various intervals on a Swiss Machine.
Supervisory Responsibilities: · None.
Duties/Responsibilities: ·
- Performs set up and changeover for jobs on turning center machines.
- Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance.
- Produces the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances.
- Measures finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications.
- Reads and interprets calipers, micrometers, and blueprints.
- Performs machine operating duties as needed.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
- Assists with cleaning, maintenance, and housekeeping as needed.
- Maintains communication and interaction with office and factory personnel and engineers.
- Performs other functions relating to the turning center area as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities
- Must be familiar with G-code.
- Familiarity with operation of Swiss style turning machines a plus.
- Familiarity with multi-axis Swiss style turning machine programming a plus.
- Must be familiar with basic feed/speed rates and cutting tools.
- Must have Windows PC experience.
- Familiarity with CAM software a plus.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software a plus.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Ability to make decisions with intelligence, intuition, common sense.
- Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and good basic math skills.
- Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Ability to read blueprints and various measuring tools including calipers and micrometers.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in adapting setups.
- Must work well independently and in a team environment.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate and work with people in office, factory, and inspection as required.
- Must be safety oriented.
- Ability to maintain correct tolerances and quality specifications.
Education and Experience
- 3 to 5 years operator /operator experience a plus
- Completion of related Vocational Certificate or Associate Program a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
- Prolonged periods of standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying materials.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
- Must wear safety glasses.
