As part of our long ‑ term vision , we are searching for a highly capable and motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Seoul office .

The Team

You will join the Geotechnical Site Assessment (GSA) Department within WT’s Site Characterisation Business Unit. Our team of world-class geotechnical engineers delivers innovative, sustainable and optimised solutions which empower clients to achieve their renewable energy goals with greater speed and efficiency through strong commitment to technical excellence, innovation and collaboration .

The team is supporting and developing offshore geotechnical data survey campaign and laboratory testing , preparation of specifications and data review activities ensuring clients’ surveys deliver high quality data to optimise engineering solutions . We undertake i nterpretation of geotechni ca l data for derivation of input design parameters as well as design of offshore foundations using in-house and commercial tools including scour design and cable engineering.

Role & Responsibilities

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer , you will have technical, commercial a s well as research and development responsibilities for projects across our portfolio of work.

Typical responsibilities include

  • Solving civil engineering problems related to planning, development, design and construction of offshore wind farms .
  • Supporting clients in preparation, execution and technical management of offshore and nearshore geotechnical field and laboratory survey campaigns .
  • Specifying and processing laboratory test results (advanced and cyclic) and performing review and quality control of large datasets .
  • Undertaking geotechnical interpretation of in-situ and laboratory data efficiently and preparing interpretive reports and geotechnical design profiles .
  • Undertaking s oil structure interaction analyses and geotechnical foundation design adopting commercial and in-house design and installation tools .
  • Designing scour protection , undertaking cable burial , seabed mobility and design seabed level studies .
  • Prepar ing Design Briefs and engage in certification process .
  • Support ing technical leads on projects from concept stage through to detailed design .
  • Engag ing and support ing internal and external research and development ( R&D ) activities .
  • Contributing to the development of in-house geotechnical interpretation and design software tools and their cross-disciplinary integration .
  • Defin ing and communicat ing findings and risks to management, external stakeholders and internal engineering teams .

Required Experience & Qualifications

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer you must be able to demonstrate the following

  • A M aster's degree or PhD in civil or geotechnical engineering or equivalent with minimum of 7 years of relevant experience as a professional engineer .
  • A re highly numerate and have experience of developing/writing your own scripts using programs such as MATLAB and /or Python .
  • Understand laboratory testing including basic and advanced tests of soils and rocks , with the ability to manage labs and develop lab testing specifications .
  • H ave knowledge and experience in interpretation of geotechnical data for derivation of input design parameters related to offshore windfarm engineering .
  • Have experience with soil structure interaction design methodologies for offshore wind farm .
  • P ossess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with clients and other consultants effectively .

Beneficial / Desirable Experience

The following are advantageous but not essential

  • Native-level or fluent Korean (spoken and written).
  • Have experience with design and installation of monopiles, pin piles and suction caissons.
  • Regional geotechnical experience with knowledge of the Korean design guidance and stan dards .
  • Have experience with design codes/guidelines such as API, Eurocode, DIN, DNV-OS-J101.

Location & Working Arrangements

This role is based in Seoul, South Korea, on local terms and conditions. It is not a remote role. L ocal travel within Korea will be required to support client engagement and technical collaboration , including undertaking technical work on client premises .
