Job Description

Hanging live birds onto the overhead shackle line from the live bird hanging conveyor.

The Live Hanger retrieves birds from the conveyor and hangs the birds on the overhead shackle line. From a standing position, he/she picks up and hangs live birds weighing approximately 3.5-6.5 pounds by both legs in shackles shoulder height, 16 inches from the body, approximately .5 per minutes.

The hanger position located at the end of the belt will control the feed rate of the hanging conveyor and the flow of birds. His duties also include transporting DOA’s and dumping them onto the dead bird take-away conveyor.

Use of both hands and arms required.

Must stand on metal platform for up to 8 hours with (two thirty-minute breaks).

Must be able to tolerate dark/dusty environments.

Job Description Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous product flow on production lines to support efficiency and throughput
  • Relieve Team Members on the production line for breaks, lunches, and absences
  • Fill in for open positions during labor shortages to ensure uninterrupted operations
  • Perform multiple production tasks as assigned, including but not limited to packing, sorting, staging, and material handling
  • Assist with product movement between production areas to prevent downtime or congestion
  • Monitor work areas to ensure product quality, food safety, and sanitation standards are met
  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to fresh product handling
  • Assist supervisors by responding quickly to changing production needs
  • Identify and report safety hazards, equipment issues, or product concerns immediately
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of production areas, tools, and equipment
  • Comply with all Tyson policies, OSHA regulations, USDA requirements, and food safety guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production and operational goals

Fresh Plant Environment Expectations

  • Work directly with raw and fresh products in a temperature-controlled environment
  • Strict adherence to hygiene, sanitation, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Compliance with food safety, quality, and contamination prevention practices
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing line assignments and production priorities

Education and Experience Requirements

Education

High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience

  • Previous manufacturing or fresh food production experience preferred
  • Ability to learn and perform multiple production tasks

Skills and Competencies

  • Flexibility and willingness to work in multiple production areas
  • Strong attendance and reliability
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Basic communication skills
  • Team-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to safety and quality

Physical Demands and Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for the entire shift
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, and perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, or humid conditions typical of a fresh plant environment
  • Required use of PPE, including gloves, aprons, hairnets, and protective footwear

Work Schedule

  • Must be available to work assigned shifts
  • Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required based on production needs

The Utility Laborer is expected to maintain a safe work environment at all times and strictly adhere to Tyson policies, food safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and plant procedures. This role is critical to ensuring consistent production flow and operational flexibility in a fresh food manufacturing environment.
