Financial Investigator - 2 Years - FTC/Secondment

Financial Investigator

Are you an experienced Investigator with a strong interest in financial crime and asset recovery?

As Financial Investigator, you'll support and undertake financial investigations in line with the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, helping to identify and recover cash and assets linked to criminal activity. You'll investigate the financial activity of suspected offenders, analyse financial information, identify assets and criminal proceeds, and support wider investigations into money laundering. You'll also prepare reports, statements and briefing documents, work with partner agencies and, where required, present evidence in court.

This is a varied role for someone who enjoys investigative work, can work confidently with complex information and wants to contribute directly to disrupting criminal activity and recovering the proceeds of crime.

Key responsibilities

As Financial Investigator, you'll

• Conduct financial investigations into suspected offenders to identify and trace assets obtained through criminal activity or used to fund a criminal lifestyle.
• Analyse financial data and information to identify assets, financial audit trails and potential criminal proceeds.
• Undertake civil investigations into cash seizures under Proceeds of Crime legislation.
• Support ongoing money laundering investigations and the identification of criminal proceeds.
• Prepare detailed reports, briefing documents and witness statements, and provide evidence in court where required.
• Investigate financial backgrounds, identify assets and prepare information and statements required by the courts.
• Produce financial profiles of suspects and reports identifying criminal benefit for confiscation proceedings.
• Investigate disclosures of suspected criminal activity made by financial institutions in accordance with relevant legislation.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, external agencies and Government departments to support investigations and prosecutions.
• Respond to enquiries received by the Economic Crime Unit from internal and external parties.

Who we're looking for

You'll be someone who enjoys investigative work and can confidently analyse complex financial information to build a clear picture of criminal activity. You'll be comfortable working independently while contributing positively to a wider team, managing deadlines and handling sensitive information with a high level of integrity and discretion.

You'll also bring

• Accreditation as a Financial Investigator, or a willingness to work towards accreditation through the National Crime Agency Proceeds of Crime Centre.
• Good investigative skills.
• Effective communication skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues from a range of different disciplines.
• Experience preparing and conducting briefings.
• A good understanding of relevant legislation, including the Proceeds of Crime Act.
• The ability to maintain high standards of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
• The ability to use your own initiative while working effectively within a team.
• The ability to work under pressure and meet specific deadlines.

Investigative experience within a financial environment, experience undertaking complex investigations and experience giving evidence in court would be advantageous, although not essential.
