The University Library invites applications for a Library Assistant to join our User and Information Services Cluster at the Au Shue Hung Memorial Library (Main Library). This position is ideal for anyone who enjoys being in a dynamic team that values learning and interacting with library users on the front line. Responsibilities

  • Provide counter services with empathy and courtesy at the Main Library’s User Services Counter, including shift work for evenings, weekends, and public holidays;
  • Respond to reference enquiries and offer accurate information and guidance via various channels, including in person, phone, email, Facebook and WhatsApp;
  • Deliver library tours and support library workshops as a teaching assistant;
  • Create print and digital promotional materials, produce multimedia content, and coordinate library event promotion; and
  • Take part in cross-functional teams as assigned and assist in any other tasks assigned by the supervisor or cluster head to support library operations and projects.

Requirements

  • Applicants should possess at least a recognised Higher Diploma / Associate degree, a recognised university degree or equivalent qualification is preferred;
  • Good written and oral communication skills in both English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • Hands-on knowledge of MS Office applications, design and content creation tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent), and web content management platforms (e.g. WordPress or LibGuides);
  • Experience in graphic design, multimedia production, or digital content creation is preferred;
  • Knowledge of digital learning platforms (e.g. Moodle) and Integrated library system (e.g. OneSearch and Alma) is an advantage; and
  • Qualification or work experience in the library field is preferred but not essential.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
