About The Role
About the unit
Our Labor and Delivery is located a Butterworth hospital. We deliver the most babies of any hospital in Michigan with an average of 8,000 births a year. The unit consists of 28 private birthing suites, 11-bed triage, 3 OR suites, and 5 recovery bays. Our staff consist of RN, Anesthesia RNs, Nurse Techs, OB Techs and Unit Secretaries.
We have 2 options for core schedules
Core 1
Week 1: Friday, Saturday
Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday
Week 3: Wednesday, Thursday
Core 2
Week 1: Sunday, Monday
Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday
Week 3: Friday, Saturday

Scope of work
The Anesthesia Care Nurse (ACN) coordinates anesthesia care on Labor and Delivery (L&D) by serving as a liaison between labor nurses and anesthesiologists. This role manages labor epidurals, including assisting with placement, dosing, and troubleshooting. The ACN also assists the anesthesiologist with spinal and general anesthesia in the operating room for cesarean sections and other obstetrical procedures. An advanced degree is not required for this position, and it is not a CRNA role. Additionally, the ACN evaluates obstetrical patients upon admission and provides anesthesia-related education to support patients throughout the labor and delivery experience
Qualifications
- Associates in Nursing Required
- Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
- Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required within 180 day
- 5+ years of women's health nursing experience preferred
- ICU experience preferred
