Dow Jones Apprenticeship Program: Printing Plant Rotation

About the Program
The Dow Jones Printing Plant Apprenticeship Program is a 6-month immersive experience designed to give participants real exposure to how modern print operations work at the intersection of manufacturing and technology.
Our apprentices work directly within our printing plants, gaining hands-on experience across both traditional press operations, with exposure to mechanics, and electrical maintenance and troubleshooting skills to support operations. Utilizing operational systems for production of your print products and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for preventive and predictive maintenance. you’ll build skills that are relevant for the future of the industry.
We believe the best way to learn is by doing, which is why you’ll be paired with experienced operators and mentors, supported through structured coaching sessions, and exposed to leaders across the business.
Our goal is to provide a supportive, engaging, and hands-on environment where your contributions matter and your development is prioritized. You will gain valuable skills in the craft of printing, that builds a foundation that can be used in various forms of the printing industry.
You Will
- Learn the fundamentals of press operations, including mechanics, color systems, and quality control
- Support day-to-day production in a live printing environment
- Monitor equipment and assist with preventive/predictive maintenance using a CMMS system
- Work with Variable Data Printing (VDP) and digital pre-press processes
- Explore tools to improve efficiency in layout and production workflows
- Contribute to projects focused on sustainability, efficiency, or process improvement
- Troubleshoot mechanical and system-related issues alongside experienced team members
You Have
- Interest in manufacturing, engineering, or technical operations
- Curiosity about how things work—both mechanically and digitally
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Basic computer or technical skills (a plus, but not required)
- A proactive mindset and eagerness to take initiative
