As a Senior Observability Architect , you will help product and platform teams across Digital & Information Technology (D&IT) improve the visibility, reliability, and performance of their applications and systems. Working within a collaborative DevOps team, you will lead the development and adoption of observability practices, helping teams gain meaningful insights through monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and telemetry. This role combines technical expertise , coaching, and hands-on implementation to enable data-driven operational decision-making and support continuous improvement across the organization.

Minimum Requirements
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, or similar platforms
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, with 8+ years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, telemetry, and system performance concepts
- Experience supporting DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation initiatives
- Knowledge of cloud environments such as Azure and/or AWS

Responsibilities
- Develop and advance observability strategies, frameworks, and best practices across applications, platforms, and value streams
- Define and establish performance metrics and operational indicators that align with business outcomes
- Develop foundational standards, templates, and reference materials to improve consistency and adoption
- Champion, facilitate and advise the development of observability strategy for individual teams within D&IT
- Collaborate with stakeholders to improve system reliability, operational awareness, and service performance across the organization
- Partner with product and platform teams to implement effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and telemetry solutions
- Support the evolution of observability capabilities through automation, analytics, and emerging AiOps /Machine Learning driven practices
Location and other Key Details
- This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with occasional site visits
- Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based on years of experience and scope of work
