We are currently seeking an experienced Irrigation Technician – Lead Hand to lead crews, oversee irrigation installations and repairs, and support field operations.
Position Summary
The Irrigation Technician – Lead Hand is responsible for supervising irrigation crews while performing hands-on installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial irrigation systems. This role requires strong technical competence, leadership ability, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise irrigation crews on daily job sites
- Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair irrigation systems
- Coordinate daily tasks, materials, and equipment
- Ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards
- Perform system start-ups, adjustments, and winterization
- Troubleshoot electrical, valve, controller, and water pressure issues
- Read and interpret irrigation designs, drawings, and site plans
- Complete and document daily site safety meetings and FLHAs
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and crew members
- Train and mentor junior irrigation technicians and laborers
- Operate tools and equipment safely (trenching equipment, pipe cutters, hand tools, etc.)
- Assist with other landscape or maintenance tasks as required
Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5+ years of experience in irrigation installation and repair
- Previous lead hand or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of commercial and residential irrigation systems
- Experience with low-voltage electrical troubleshooting
- Ability to read blueprints and irrigation plans
- Physically fit and able to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Strong leadership, organization, and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with clean abstract
- Ability to safely operate job-related equipment
- Landscape or horticulture experience is an asset
