About The Role

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (CDL Driver)

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current valid CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements
  • Current State Bus Driver or DOT Physical
  • Register for and provide AIDB access to FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • Ability to pass Drug Screens as required
  • Must meet suitability/background requirements for employment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (Non-CDL Driver)

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Driver License
  • Ability to be covered by AIDB insurance carrier
  • No record of DUI and/or Drug Convictions
  • Ability to pass Drug Screens as required
  • Must meet suitability/background requirements for employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with individuals who are Blind, Deaf, or DeafBlind
  • Knowledge of basic mobility techniques

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Transportation & Safety Operations

  • Safe & Timely Transit: Provide safe and timely transportation for Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) students, employees, and affiliates.
  • Schedule Adherence: Maintain and keep the bus and vehicle on assigned schedule.
  • Compliance: Abide by all federal, state, local, and AIDB rules, regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform acceptable pre- and post-trip inspections, report any mechanical problems promptly, and maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle's interior.
  • Emergency Response: Remain calm and effectively handle emergency situations as they arise.
  • Assigned routes may include local, regional, and state travel to meet program needs.

Student Supervision & Support

  • Constant Supervision: Ensure student safety by never leaving a student unattended in vehicle.
  • Behavior Management: Handle and report student discipline problems in accordance with established school guidelines.
  • Chaperone Duties: Actively perform chaperone duties as required during transit and related activities.

Administration & Compliance

  • Documentation: Complete and turn in all paperwork required by the AIDB Transportation Department.
  • Time Tracking: Accurate and truthful timekeeping for payroll purposes.

Professional Development & Training

  • Accessibility Training: Must attend wheelchair lift and securement training within six (6) months of employment.

Salary: $24.12 (CDL) $16.93 (No CDL)
