ABOUT THE ROLE
The Assistant Wrestling Coach / Junior Varsity Coach is responsible for assisting the head varsity coach in all aspects of the wrestling program while assuming direct responsibility for the coaching and development of junior high and junior varsity student-athletes. This position supports practice sessions, conditioning, equipment management, meet administration, and team logistics, while maintaining a safe, disciplined, and supportive environment that promotes academic success, sportsmanship, and personal growth for students.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications
- Current AIDB Employee
- Must hold AHSAA Coaches Education Program certification (successful completion of Coaching Principles and Sports First Aid in an undergraduate or graduate degree program) or obtain these certifications before any practice may be attended.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Teaching Certificate
- Active CPR certification
- CDL with Alabama School Bus Driver’s License
- Previous coaching experience
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Program & Coaching Support
- Varsity Assistance: Assist the varsity head coach as needed during practices, conditioning/weight training programs, meets, and tournaments.
- JV / Junior High Coaching: Assume primary responsibility for coaching, instructing, and leading junior high and junior varsity athletes.
- Practice Execution: Assist with planning and executing wrestling practice sessions, demonstrating deep knowledge of wrestling skills and techniques.
- Conditioning & Weight Training: Assist the head coach in the execution of the team's conditioning and strength-building programs.
- Safety & Student Clearance: Review physical exam forms to assure participants are cleared to train, practice, and compete, and maintain a safe training environment at all times.
Team Operations & Event Coordination
- Meet Operations: Conduct meets and tournaments for junior high/junior varsity competition and assist the head coach at varsity meets/tournaments as needed.
- Scheduling & Purchasing Support: Assist the head coach and athletic director in scheduling events and purchasing team equipment and supplies.
- Equipment & Facility Management: Assist in developing and maintaining a system for checking out, washing, storing, and returning uniforms and equipment; organize and maintain equipment and facilities.
- Media & Public Relations: Inform news media of meet and tournament results in a timely manner.
Supervision, Rules & Student Success
- Student Supervision: Supervise students at all times during practices, competitions, travel, and related athletic activities.
- Facility Oversight: Evaluate and maintain a safe environment at all times, making requests for facility repairs as needed.
- Team Discipline & Expectations: Assist the head coach in establishing and executing written expectations and rules for team discipline, sportsmanship, and behavior.
- Academic Encouragement: Encourage and support the academic progress and continuous growth of student-athletes.
- Regulatory Compliance: Be aware of, follow, and enforce all state, AIDB, ASB, and Athletic Department rules and regulations.
Professional Development & Collaboration
- Ongoing Training: Attend workshops, retraining sessions, meetings, and seminars as required to maintain certifications, upgrade knowledge, and implement best practices in sports.
- Communication & Rapport: Maintain effective oral and written communication and build positive rapport with students, staff, parents, and school administration.
- Teamwork: Work cooperatively with and support other athletic personnel and athletic programs.
Certifications
- May be required to obtain a CDL within the first 24 months of employment.

SALARY
- 0-3 years of experience $4,000.00
- 4-7 years of experience $5,500.00
- 8+ years of experience $7,000.00
This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
