About The Role

Work Schedule - As Needed, Not to Exceed 19 Hours a Week

ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role to ensure that AIDB’s culture of inclusion is reinforced and that students and employees feel connected, recognized, and proud to be a part of the organization.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possess and maintain Alabama Interpreter Provisional Permit upon employment.
  • Must have at least three (3) months of formal work experience interpreting for the Deaf/DeafBlind.
  • Must have proven experience in utilizing a full range of communication and language levels including the use of sign, spoken language, and any additional modes of communication.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to interpreting.
  • Must know and adhere to the RID Interpreter Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Must possess skills in using Google Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license, an automobile for use on the job, and liability insurance in effect.
  • Must possess a minimum entry sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system (SLPI/SCPI) upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Six months or more of interpreting experience.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Provide interpreting services and assist the Director of Interpreting as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards of practice.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Willing and able to work flexible schedules to include holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Assist in planning and participate in AIDB activities, i.e., White Cane, Deaf Awareness, educational workshops, social/community events, graduation, in-service week, summer camps, and/or statewide programs.
  • Work with other Deaf professionals to provide interpretation for agency workshops and events.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor and other professionals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards of practice outlined in the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Interpreting Services.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

SALARY

$17.29 Provisional Permit, SLPI: Intermediate Plus
