Position Overview
- Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Risk Management, the Senior Manager, Finance is responsible for
- leading core finance operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting timely,
- reliable financial reporting across the organization. This role oversees accounting activities, month-end and year
- end close, audits, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and financial systems/process
- improvement.
- The Senior Manager, Finance provides day-to-day leadership to the finance team, supports organizational leaders
- with budget-to-actual analysis and financial decision-making, and ensures compliance with internal policies,
- accounting standards, funder requirements, and applicable regulatory filings. The role also helps strengthen
- financial transparency, internal controls, and operational efficiency across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, coach, and support members of the finance team, including training, work assignment review, and
day-to-day guidance.
- Promote respectful, professional, and service-oriented communication between Finance and staff across
the organization.
- Oversee the maintenance of accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP, ASNPO, internal
policies, and applicable best practices.
- Lead or oversee the monthly close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, subledger
postings, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
- Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare internal financial reports, analysis, and commentary to support leadership decision-making.
- Lead or support interim and year-end audit preparation, including working papers, reconciliations,
schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with auditors and respond to audit queries in a timely and organized manner.
- Liaise with Fund Development to support accurate accounting of donations, sponsorships, grants, and
restricted contributions.
- Review and reconcile Raiser’s Edge and general ledger activity, including campaign, fund, and appeal
coding.
- Support and strengthen internal financial controls, accounting processes, and reporting mechanisms.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, workflows, transparency, efficiency, and data quality.
- Provide financial support, guidance, and training to program leaders and staff on financial policies,
procedures, budgets, coding, and reporting expectations.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to support accurate financial information, strong accountability,
- and practical problem-solving.

What You Bring to Our Mission
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA designation or progress toward
CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a not-for-profit, charity,
social services, or funder-driven environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting standards applicable to not-for-profit organizations.
- Strong experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and
compliance reporting.
- Experience with government, charitable, and nonprofit reporting requirements, including CRA charity
requirements and other regulatory filings.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting systems; experience with QuickBooks online is considered an
asset.
- Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Vena, payroll systems, and funder reporting tools is considered an asset.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and strong overall proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, accounting standards, and funder requirements.
- High attention to detail and ability to work effectively under deadlines with overlapping priorities.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort communicating with all levels of the organization.
- Completion of required organizational training as assigned.
