IT Business Analyst - Finance & Portfolio
Avacone · Basel, Basel City, Switzerland
About The Role
Role overview
We are looking for a pragmatic IT Business Analyst with a strong interest in technology cost management, portfolio planning, and data-driven decision-making. You will work alongside IT leaders, product and delivery teams to make technology spend, resource demand, and investment choices more transparent and actionable.
This is a hands-on professional role, ideal for someone who understands how IT is delivered and enjoys turning operational data into clear analysis. You will not be expected to own enterprise-wide finance strategy or manage a team; instead, you will build reliable insight, improve day-to-day processes, and help stakeholders make well-supported decisions.
What you will do
Technology cost and portfolio insight
- Maintain and improve clear views of IT operating costs, project spend, supplier commitments, and key cost drivers.
- Support monthly forecasting, budget tracking, and variance analysis for assigned IT areas.
- Prepare concise dashboards, management information, and decision-support materials for IT stakeholders.
- Help evaluate the cost and capacity implications of new initiatives, cloud services, licences, and technology changes.
IT delivery and process support
- Partner with product managers, delivery leads, and service owners to understand roadmaps, dependencies, and resource needs.
- Translate IT delivery activity into practical data points for budgets, forecasts, and portfolio reporting.
- Improve reporting quality and automate recurring manual tasks where possible, using tools such as Excel, Power BI, ServiceNow, or similar platforms.
- Contribute to sensible governance for purchase orders, vendor renewals, business cases, and investment tracking.
Collaboration
- Work constructively with IT, Finance, Procurement, and external suppliers to resolve data gaps and clarify assumptions.
- Communicate findings in a clear, non-technical way and raise risks or inconsistencies early.
- Build trusted working relationships while staying curious, organised, and solutions-oriented.
What you bring
Essential
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in IT business analysis, IT controlling, technology operations, PMO, service management, or a comparable analytical role.
- A practical understanding of how IT services, software delivery, cloud platforms, vendors, and project or product teams operate.
- Confidence working with numbers and data: budgets, forecasts, cost analysis, capacity plans, or operational performance metrics.
- Strong Excel skills and experience producing clear reports or dashboards; Power BI or similar BI tooling is an advantage.
- A structured, detail-oriented approach and the ability to explain analysis to non-finance and non-technical audiences.
- Professional English; German is an advantage.
Nice to have
- Experience with ServiceNow, ERP or finance systems, cloud cost management, software asset management, or portfolio tooling.
- Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, project delivery, or ITIL service-management practices.
- Experience in a regulated, international, or outsourced IT environment.
What success looks like
- Accurate, timely reporting that helps stakeholders understand spend, commitments, and delivery priorities.
- Improved visibility of technology cost drivers, vendor commitments, and resource demand.
- Forecasts and portfolio data that are consistent, well explained, and easy to use in decisions.
Recurring reporting processes that become simpler, more reliable, and less manual over time.
