About The Role

This position is responsible for partnering with executive leadership and other key stakeholders in strengthening Vertex's competitive position, driving growth and value creation over the long term, and to proactively identifying potential strategic opportunities by building and expanding the presence of Vertex in its existing and growing ecosystem. Corporate development activities will address current and emerging potential prospects, technological advancements and disruptive forces, existing and new partners, and alliances as well as competitors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives exploration for business growth by identifying and prioritizing potential business opportunities and evaluating potential investments, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and/or M&A activities in service to Vertex’s strategy.
  • Builds pipeline of opportunities aligned with strategic vision of Vertex; produce strategic documents and financial models for presentation and discussion.
  • Builds and maintain relationships with corporate leadership, target companies, and industry professional networks, that can assist in identifying targets as well as outside perspective of key market data and trends.
  • Drives partner targeting, deal structuring and stakeholder management for a set of priorities critical for executing growth strategy.
  • Oversees all outreach, pitch, deal structuring and contract negotiation.
  • Defines and build processes to develop leads, deals and overall data management of new business/corporate development.
  • Routinely update Vertex’s Strategy Leadership and Execution Leadership Team as circumstances materialize.
  • Assists in the deployment of Vertex business plans. Identify and personally lead high-impact enterprise-oriented change.
  • Serves as a connection point to sales, marketing, technology, and strategy teams, which are fundamental to success.
  • May lead projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional international business travel may be required.

  • Excellent strategic and critical thinking skills required
  • Ability to apply broad expertise or unique knowledge and professional concepts to develop resolutions to critical issues.
  • Ability to identify and uncover strategic opportunities, as well create and develop relationships and respond to change/opportunities within the ecosystem.
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex, high-visibility and high-impact projects simultaneously.
  • High level of EQ with an understanding when and how to engage appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ability to build strong formal and informal networks with key decision-makers and senior leaders, internally and externally.
  • Must be results oriented and customer focused.
  • Technology industry experience, working with complex eco-systems of partnerships, alliances and suppliers where the end-product was IP based products and/or services.
  • Strong experience developing and presenting strategic vision and value proposition to key executive level stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of corporate financing and accounting.
  • Excellent strategic and critical thinking skills required.
  • Ability to apply broad expertise or unique knowledge and professional concepts to develop resolutions to critical issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex, high visibility or high impact projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work without supervision and aware enough to understand when and how to engage appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ability to create formal networks with key decision makers.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, presentation and facilitation skills with C-suite executives internally and externally.
  • Strong ability to communicate (written, oral and presentation) required at C-suite level
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Ability to draft financial and quantitative analysis of emerging opportunities.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor's Degree required in accounting, information technology, tax or related business field. Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Eighteen (18) plus years of directly related experience including M&A, global partnering, digital and non-digital businesses, etc..
  • Ten (10) plus years leadership responsibility leading teams.
  • CPA, tax/tax technology or tax professional certifications and/ or credentials are strongly desired.
  • Experience working with value-chain based business technology solutions (ERP, e-commerce, data monetization). Global experience, particularly in Europe or LATAM a plus.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Pay Transparency Statement

US Base Salary Range: $227,500.00 - $295,700.00

Base pay offered to new hires may vary based upon factors including relevant industry and job-related skills and experience, geographic location, and business needs.* The range displayed does not encompass the full potential of the role, which allows for further growth and career progression.

In addition, as a part of our total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Vertex Bonus Plan (VOB), a role-specific sales commission/bonus, and/or equity grants.
