Applications are invited for a Guaranteed Hours (GH), open ended contract as a Pattern Cutting Tutor in Fashion on the following courses for a total of 305 hours:

  • DESI08070: Fashion Design 2A: The Architects of the Body (56hours)
  • DESI08069: Fashion Design 2B: Designing Diversity for the Fashion Industries (56hours)
  • DESI10104: Fashion Design 3A: Fashion Innovation for Industry (98hours)
  • DESI10105: Fashion Design 3B: Fashion Innovation for Branding & Business (95hours)

The Fashion Programme at Edinburgh College of Art is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our team as a Pattern Cutting Tutor. This flexible role may involve an average of 1-2 days per week varying across the academic year depending on semester demands.

This role will support the development, design, and delivery of teaching in pattern cutting across our undergraduate Fashion programme. Key responsibilities include leading workshops and demonstrations across multiple year groups, as well as providing formative and summative assessment and feedback.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Fashion Design and a comprehensive understanding of contemporary pattern cutting techniques. They must be able to teach a broad range of skills, including drafting patterns from scratch, creating and adapting blocks, tailoring, outerwear and creative pattern cutting methods.

Your skills and attributes for success

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, or with substantial industry experience in fashion design or pattern cutting.
  • Experience of teaching within higher or further education settings with a proven ability to work confidently and effectively with a diverse student body.
  • Proficient in delivering a range of pattern cutting techniques, including basic block drafting, tailoring, outerwear construction, and creative pattern cutting.
  • Strong, up-to-date knowledge of contemporary fashion design practices and trends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
