We are looking for an independent and detail-oriented merchandiser to join us!
Here is what you need to know about this role
- Strategic Sourcing & Category Leadership
- Merchandising Leadership: Direct macro-level sourcing, product development, and market expansion strategies for EU hardgoods categories.
- Commercial Strategy: Drive growth, maximize margins, and build competitive sourcing plans to ensure long-term supply continuity.
- Market Intelligence: Track raw material trends, vendor technical capabilities, and EU retail innovations to drive strategic pivots.
- Customer Engagement & Buying Meetings
- European Retailer Alignment: Partner with EU buyers on log-term product direction, quality, target costs, and compliance.
- Buying Trips & Events: Organize and facilitate buying trips, range reviews, and strategic meetings with key executive partners.
- Vendor Management & Commercial Execution
- Supplier Network Development: Build and evaluate a strong vendor network in HK and China for long-term scalable growth.
- Cost Optimization: Negotiate high-level commercial terms, factory capacity, and strategic partnerships with suppliers.
- Order Execution: Provide executive oversight of product lifecycles and short-cycle workflows, and safeguarding end-to-end supply chain reliability.
- Risk & Compliance: Proactively mitigate macro supply chain risks and resolve bottlenecks, while upholding strict European regulatory standards.
- Team Leadership & Regional Governance
- Cross-Border Leadership: Lead and mentor HK and China teams, setting clear KPIs and driving accountability, and developing future leaders through succession planning.
- Continuous Improvement: Streamline operational workflows and report key sourcing performance metrics to management.
You might be a good fit if you have/are …
- Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 15+ years of progressive global sourcing, product development, or merchandising leadership experience, with a heavy focus on hardgoods/consumer goods, including at least 5 years in a senior managerial capacity.
- Proven experience managing categories across Stationery, Toys, Household, or Multimedia.
- Deep, mandatory experience in sourcing operations specifically tailored for leading European retailers. Solid understanding of the European retail environment, including compliance requirements, safety standards, product lifecycles, and seasonal timing.
- Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated success leading large-scale cross-border teams across Hong Kong and Mainland China.
- Highly energetic, self-motivated, and responsive with a strong "can-do" attitude under pressure, coupled with a visionary mindset and strategic agility.
- Exceptional written and spoken command of English and Mandarin.
- Willingness to travel across China, regional sourcing hubs, and Europe for vendor visits, trade shows, and customer meetings as required.
