About The Role
Structural Steel Quality Inspector
Location: Arlington, TNJob Type: Contract-to-HireShift: 1st ShiftStarting Pay: $32.00/hour. Starting pay may be higher depending on experience.
Position Summary
We are looking for a Structural Steel Quality Inspector to help verify that fabricated steel, welding, and coatings meet project requirements, industry standards, and quality expectations. This is a hands-on shop-floor position with limited office work.
Responsibilities
- Inspect structural steel components, welds, materials, and coatings for quality and compliance.
- Apply AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other applicable standards.
- Check incoming materials, parts, and consumables.
- Identify and document inspected materials.
- Maintain inspection records, logs, and quality documentation.
- Calibrate and maintain welding equipment and inspection tools.
- Support welder qualification and certification activities.
- Assist with training involving welding, fitting, and quality requirements.
- Maintain drawing control and other quality processes.
- Work with production and management to address quality issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement and training programs.
- Promote safe work practices and workplace safety.
Requirements
- 2+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
- Background in quality control, inspection, or manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
Experience with inspection equipment, including
- Fillet weld gauges
- V-WAC gauges
Squares
- Tape measures
- Other standard inspection tools
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Preferred
- Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- Nondestructive testing experience, including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Penetrant Testing (PT).
- Certifications related to structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection.
- Previous steel manufacturing experience.
Work Environment
- Primarily based on the production floor.
- Limited office work.
- Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
- Regular standing, walking, and material inspection throughout the shift.
