This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a LLVM Compiler Engineer based in India.

This is an opportunity to work on a high-performance Java platform at the forefront of modern cloud <computing.You> will join a distributed, highly collaborative team of compiler specialists focused on advancing JIT compilation technology.The role centers on developing new compiler features and optimizations for a production-grade LLVM-based Java <compiler.You> will contribute to improving LLVM performance for managed languages and solving challenging compiler and runtime problems.Your work will directly influence Java performance, reliability, and efficiency across demanding enterprise <workloads.You> will also have opportunities to contribute to open-source projects and engage with the broader Java and OpenJDK ecosystem.This is a high-impact engineering environment where deep technical expertise, experimentation, and performance innovation are highly valued.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize new features for an LLVM-based Just-In-Time compiler for Java bytecode.
  • Improve compiler optimizations and runtime performance for managed-language workloads.
  • Contribute to LLVM improvements and enhancements that support high-performance language runtimes.
  • Analyze compiler and application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement targeted optimization strategies.
  • Work with low-level architectures and instruction sets to improve generated code quality and execution efficiency.
  • Collaborate with compiler, runtime, and performance engineering specialists in a distributed global environment.
  • Contribute to open-source initiatives and participate in the broader Java and OpenJDK technical community.
  • Apply strong compiler theory and software engineering practices to complex technical challenges.
  • Help investigate and resolve difficult performance, code-generation, and compiler correctness issues.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience developing LLVM-based compilers or substantial transferable experience with other compiler technologies.
  • Strong C and C++ design and development skills, with the ability to work effectively on complex systems software.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of compiler architecture, optimization, and development.
  • Experience developing language runtimes and/or Just-In-Time compilers is highly valued.
  • Solid understanding of x86_64 and/or ARM64 instruction sets and low-level optimization techniques is an advantage.
  • Experience with performance analysis, profiling, benchmarking, and identifying optimization opportunities.
  • Familiarity with Java, Scala, Kotlin, or other managed-language ecosystems is preferred.
  • PhD in Computer Science or significant academic/research experience is considered an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an interest in tackling technically complex performance challenges.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a distributed, international engineering team.
