Accountabilities
Lead AI research and development: Design, train, validate, and deploy state-of-the-art machine learning models that address complex problems across clinical care and the life sciences.
Drive multimodal innovation: Develop models leveraging diverse data modalities, including whole-slide pathology images, genomic DNA/RNA profiles, spatial omics, and longitudinal patient records.
Own end-to-end model development: Take significant hands-on ownership across research, experimentation, model development, validation, optimization, and production deployment.
Develop life sciences solutions: Partner with life sciences organizations to create AI applications supporting biomarker discovery, therapy outcome prediction, companion diagnostics, and related drug-development initiatives.
Translate research into products: Bridge cutting-edge AI research and practical healthcare applications, ensuring models can operate effectively and reliably in production environments.
Support regulatory and quality standards: Design and develop AI solutions in alignment with applicable healthcare regulations, quality requirements, and standards for clinical applications.
Advance scientific leadership: Contribute original research to the broader AI and healthcare communities through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and engagement with external researchers.
Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with AI scientists, software engineers, clinical experts, and other stakeholders to solve technically challenging problems and deliver impactful solutions.
Requirements
Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science or another relevant quantitative discipline.
Industry experience: At least 1 year of industry experience leading the end-to-end development of machine learning models, from research and experimentation through validation and production deployment.
Deep learning expertise: Demonstrated expertise in large-scale deep learning and experience training production-grade machine learning models.
Multimodal and computer vision experience: Experience with computer vision and multimodal modeling is strongly preferred, particularly involving pathology, multi-omics, or similarly complex datasets.
Healthcare AI background: Prior experience applying AI or machine learning to medical or healthcare problems is highly valued, though not required.
Research track record: Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in leading machine learning or computer vision venues; publications focused on medical or healthcare AI are a plus.
Technical proficiency: Strong Python skills and proficiency with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
Software engineering: Product-level coding ability for model development, combined with a solid understanding of industry-standard software engineering and development practices.
Scientific mindset: Strong research instincts, analytical thinking, curiosity, and the ability to translate emerging AI techniques into practical solutions.
Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and domain-oriented stakeholders.

Benefits
Competitive salary: California salary ranges include approximately $125,000–$185,000 for Chicago and $150,000–$190,000 for New York City/San Francisco; compensation may vary by location, qualifications, and experience.
