This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Java Full Stack Developer based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to modernize complex legacy systems by translating established mainframe technologies into scalable, modern Java <solutions.You>’ll play a key role in pre-production development, supporting software modernization within a microservices architecture.The position combines deep Java development with full-stack engineering, system integration, database modernization, and cloud-native <capabilities.You>’ll work with legacy technologies including COBOL, ASM, JCL, and Copybooks while helping transition functionality to contemporary platforms.The role also involves leveraging AI/ML-enabled development approaches, CI/CD practices, and modern API and application <architectures.You>’ll collaborate across development, testing, integration, and modernization activities in a highly complex technology environment.This is a remote full-time opportunity with occasional travel to Columbus, Ohio, and is contingent upon contract award.

Accountabilities

  • Translate and refactor legacy code into modern Java applications within a defined microservices architecture.
  • Analyze and update the existing legacy code base, including COBOL, ASM, JCL, and Copybooks, to identify functional and non-functional code across the baseline.
  • Apply AI/ML tools and development processes where appropriate to accelerate and improve legacy code translation.
  • Optimize translated applications by applying microservices or other modular architectural approaches.
  • Design and develop new software products and significant enhancements to existing applications.
  • Address complex systems integration, compatibility, interoperability, and multi-platform challenges.
  • Implement modernized code within pre-production environments to support development, testing, and integration activities.
  • Support integration between modern UI/UX front ends, service layers, and relational databases.
  • Develop and support both batch and real-time processing capabilities, including ingestion of flat files and modern file formats.
  • Build and contribute to CI/CD pipelines, workflows, and development processes.
  • Support Zero Trust, ICAM integration, and cloud-native capabilities.
  • Apply Agile software development practices throughout design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Perform feasibility analysis for potential future initiatives and provide technical input to management.
  • Contribute to legacy modernization, data migration, system analysis, and technical solution decomposition activities.
  • Travel to Columbus, Ohio for on-site meetings approximately once per month, for up to three days per visit.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in software development or a closely related technical field.
  • Deep, demonstrated expertise in Java, which is the primary technical qualification for the role.
  • Demonstrated full-stack development experience across application design, development, testing, integration, and deployment.
  • Experience with technologies such as Java, HTML, .NET, AngularJS, JavaScript, SOAP, REST APIs, and web-based APIs.
  • Experience working with both hierarchical and relational database structures.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, modern application design, and software integration.
  • Significant experience with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with highly complex IT environments, including legacy system upgrades, modernization, transition, data migration, or system analysis and design.
  • Knowledge of COBOL is a significant advantage, particularly experience translating or modernizing mainframe applications.
  • Prior experience converting mainframe systems to modern languages and architectures is highly desirable.
  • AI/ML development or implementation experience is preferred.
  • Experience with modern database design and software modernization within federal government or Department of Defense environments is highly valued.
  • Ability to perform functional and technical solution decomposition to support effective analysis, architecture, and implementation.
  • Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE certification, or equivalent certification is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, IT, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Must possess an IT-II Non-Critical Sensitive security clearance or Tier 3 (T3) clearance at the time of proposal submission.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
