About The Role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Email Deliverability based in Canada.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to build and own an enterprise-scale email deliverability function from the ground <up.You> will define the strategy, infrastructure, and standards that ensure customer messages consistently reach the inbox.The role combines deep technical expertise with customer advisory responsibilities across a large portfolio of e-commerce <brands.You> will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Support to shape deliverability tooling and platform <capabilities.You> will also establish scalable processes, monitoring frameworks, and industry relationships that strengthen sender reputation and <performance.As> the function matures, you will have the opportunity to recruit, mentor, and lead a specialized deliverability team.This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys turning complex technical challenges into measurable business outcomes.

Accountabilities

  • Own the end-to-end email deliverability strategy, including IP pool architecture, domain strategy, and shared versus dedicated sending models.
  • Design and manage IP and domain warming programs that enable new senders to scale volume safely while protecting sender reputation.
  • Establish and maintain authentication standards covering SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI, and DMARC alignment across customer sending domains.
  • Monitor sender reputation, inbox placement, blocklists, spam rates, and other deliverability indicators, leading rapid remediation when issues arise.
  • Track evolving requirements from major mailbox providers, including Gmail, Yahoo, and Microsoft, and ensure sending practices remain aligned with current standards.
  • Act as the senior deliverability advisor for customers by auditing email programs, diagnosing inbox-placement challenges, and developing actionable remediation strategies.
  • Lead deliverability onboarding for customers migrating email programs, including reputation assessment, reputation transfer, and warming strategies.
  • Translate complex technical deliverability concepts into clear recommendations that marketing and business stakeholders can understand and implement.
  • Manage customer escalations and help protect and improve inbox placement and sender reputation across customer programs.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define deliverability infrastructure, monitoring capabilities, tooling, and roadmap priorities.
  • Establish scalable playbooks, processes, standards, feedback loops, reporting, and monitoring systems that support thousands of senders.
  • Implement and leverage tools such as Google Postmaster Tools, Yahoo Sender Hub, feedback loops, and internal reporting to provide visibility into deliverability health.
  • Build relationships with mailbox providers, industry partners, and the wider email deliverability community.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant email marketing and privacy regulations, including CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and mailbox-provider policies.
  • Leverage AI tools and internal systems to improve monitoring, diagnostics, reporting, and customer guidance.
  • As the function grows, recruit, mentor, and lead a team of deliverability specialists while establishing a strong culture of expertise and accountability.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of dedicated email deliverability experience, ideally within an ESP, CDP, high-volume sending platform, or comparable technology environment.
  • Deep technical expertise in SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI, IP and domain warming, sender reputation, feedback loops, and inbox placement.
  • Hands-on experience managing deliverability for high-volume senders, including diagnosing and resolving blocklisting, reputation, spam-rate, and inbox-placement issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Postmaster Tools, Yahoo Sender Hub, and current Gmail, Yahoo, and Microsoft bulk-sender requirements.
  • Established relationships with mailbox providers and/or active involvement in professional deliverability communities such as M3AAWG or Email Geeks is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce and direct-to-consumer brands, including how email contributes to customer engagement and revenue.
  • Excellent consulting and communication skills, with the ability to translate highly technical deliverability concepts into practical strategies for non-technical marketing teams.
  • Player-coach mindset with the ability to remain hands-on while developing scalable processes, documentation, and team capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a new function, establish operational standards, and create structure in a fast-paced or early-stage environment.
  • Comfortable working with AI and emerging technologies to improve monitoring, diagnostics, analysis, and operational efficiency.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail, reliability, and follow-through.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, Support, customers, and external industry stakeholders.
