About The Role

The Trust and Safety team helps YouTube grow responsibly. You will join a team dedicated to supporting the company's growing base of users and partners around the globe. Whether understanding and solving online content concerns, navigating within global legal frameworks, or writing and enforcing worldwide policy, the Trust and Safety team is working to enhance the YouTube experience, building internet safety, and protecting free speech in the digital world.

As a Trust and Safety Policy Development Lead, you will switch between developing global policies for YouTube content and driving cross-functional projects impacting the global ecosystem. This role will sometimes involve reviewing graphic, controversial, or offensive video content in line with YouTube’s community guidelines.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $136000 - $196000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in drafting or enforcing policy for an online platform or engagement with online public policy issues.
  • Experience working with global teams and communicating with stakeholders cross-functionally.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience implementing strategic or large-scale projects in a demanding, fluid environment.
  • Openness to focusing on adult content topics, with a versatile skillset that can flex into other areas.
  • Demonstrated preference for an 'actor-first' thinking approach to policy development, rather than strictly focusing on video-level guidelines.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and update global policies in various areas of online content.

Lead research and trainings for developing new policies and understanding emerging risks across the globe. Work closely with global teams to ensure effective operationalization of global policies.

Build and strengthen partnerships with partners across cross-functional groups including public policy, PR, legal, product, engineering, and sales. Understand and clearly communicate the issues and needs presented by the latest trends globally.

Influence cross-functional stakeholders and company executives regarding proposed content policy efforts.
