About The Role

Shelby Street Animal Clinic is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile, skilled assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to fully utilize a well-rounded clinical skillset across surgical support, outpatient care, and exam room workflows. We are seeking dependable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask efficiently, anticipate team needs, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering exceptional support throughout every stage of the patient visit.

Training is considered for the right candidate — what matters most is a strong foundation, a genuine passion for patient care, and the drive to grow.

In this position, you will take an active role in

  • Supporting efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
  • Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
  • Monitoring anesthesia and supporting patient recovery as directed by the veterinary team
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service

Schedule and compensation

  • Compensation: $15 - 18 per hour, for each hour worked
  • Schedule: This is a full-time position, with a 4 x 10 schedule and availability needed Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. NO WEEKENDS!

Minimum qualifications and skill set

  • 2+ years of veterinary assistant experience is preferred
  • Training is considered for the right candidate

Proficiency in the following skills

  • Client communication & education
  • Ability to take a detailed medical history
  • Accurate medical record keeping
  • Phlebotomy & SQ injection administration
  • Restraint and positioning patients for radiographs
