## Description

Our Materials Engineering Product Design team is dedicated to creating and optimizing these materials. We influence and enable innovative designs across all Apple product lines year after year. We work with the utmost attention to detail, directly impacting the design of products that millions of people around the world love.

As a Materials Engineer within the Product Design organization, you will drive the development of new plastic materials and processes to meet the structural and aesthetic requirements across a wide range of part designs and in support of Apple’s ambitious design goals.

This position is part of our in-region Materials team. You will be our in-region technical presence - accelerating development cycles, building deep partnerships with material suppliers and contract manufacturers, and helping to build the data foundation that will drive the next generation material designs and processes.

## Minimum qualifications

MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Organic Chemistry or 5+ years in the plastics industry

Strong materials fundamentals in polymer material properties, part design, and fabrication

Effective communication skills in both Mandarin and English

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use statistical tools and techniques

Ability to work effectively across time zones and cultures as part of a distributed team

Willingness and ability to travel significantly, including domestically within China as well as to the US

## Preferred qualifications

PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Organic Chemistry or 10+ years in the plastics industry

Deep understanding and expertise in advanced polymer characterization: DSC, TGA, DMA, GPC, NMR, FTIR, GCMS/LCMS, TMA, etc.

Experience with plastic and adhesive manufacturing processes, e.g., injection molding, 3D printing, compression molding, or other technologies

High attention to detail, fastidious management of large quantities of details, solution-driven mindset to manage projects to successful completion

A high level of autonomy and the management of multiple projects and vendor relationships while staying tightly aligned with a remote team

Familiarity with AI-assisted design and analysis workflows
