Production OperationsEntry LevelExternal listingfull-time5 days ago

About The Role

The Production Technician is PHLgovTV’s primary camera operator and staff editor — a hybrid craft role responsible for image acquisition on all studio and field productions, camera coverage of government proceedings, footage ingest and management, and primary editing of weekly episodes to broadcast-ready delivery in the 1080p59.94 house format.

Essential Functions

  • Operate A-camera on all studio productions and field shoots: camera setup, lighting execution (3-point studio kit), audio capture in coordination with the producing team, and shot composition to the series’ visual standards.
  • Operate camera positions for live City Council sessions, committee hearings, and mayoral press briefings, including PTZ camera shading/operation in coordination with master control.
  • Serve as primary editor: ingest, transcode, organize, and edit weekly episodes; build cuts to producer notes; conform graphics from Creative Services; deliver broadcast masters and web/social versions on deadline.
  • Prepare, maintain, and transport production equipment: cameras, lenses, wireless microphone systems, lighting, teleprompter, and the mobile podium; maintain the equipment checkout and maintenance log.
  • Manage media workflow: camera cards, field drives, NAS organization, and archive handoff.
  • Execute caption-ready deliverables and confirm ICap submission specs with the Channel Administrator.
  • Support LiveU field streaming operations for remote live broadcasts.
  • Serve as backup TD/playout operator for master control, cross-trained by the Master Control & Facilities Engineer (Production Lead), providing engineering redundancy for live Council sessions and other broadcasts.
  • Assist the Master Control & Facilities Engineer with studio and control room setup, cabling, and troubleshooting as assigned.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert camera operation across studio (pedestal/tripod) and field (handheld/gimbal) environments; strong lighting and composition fundamentals.
  • Professional editing proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, including multicam workflows, audio sweetening basics, and broadcast-legal delivery.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast signal standards (SDI, genlock, 1080p59.94) and production intercom/tally environments; aptitude to cross-train on master control playout (TelVue HyperCaster) and switcher operation.
  • Disciplined media management habits — zero-loss card and drive workflows.
  • Calm, reliable presence during live government broadcasts.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in film/TV production, media technology, or related field — or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional camera operation experience; minimum 2 years of professional editing experience (may be concurrent).
  • Reel demonstrating both camera and editing work required.
  • Live event, government meeting, or news production experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred (equipment transport to field and Simons Recreation Center locations).
  • Salary: $70,000
  • Salary cannot exceed $70,000
  • Important: To apply, candidates must provide a cover letter and a resume.
  • Work Setting: in-person (onsite)
