POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Gymnastics provides strategic leadership, management, and oversight of all YMCA gymnastics programs, including recreational gymnastics, competitive team, private instruction, camps, and specialty programming. This position is responsible for developing high-quality programs that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility while ensuring exceptional participant experiences, program growth, and operational excellence.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Gymnastics leads staff development, financial management, program innovation, risk management, and community engagement while advancing the YMCA's mission and strategic priorities. The Director fosters a culture of excellence by building strong relationships with members, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Directs and oversees all YMCA gymnastics programs, including recreational gymnastics, competitive team, private lessons, camps, clinics, and specialty programming, ensuring high-quality experiences that align with YMCA standards and the organization's mission.
• Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, develops, and evaluates gymnastics staff, providing ongoing coaching and leadership to foster a positive, high-performing team.
• Develops, implements, and continuously evaluates gymnastics programs and special events to meet community needs, increase participation, and support program growth.
• Oversees the daily operations of the gymnastics department, including class schedules, team practices, competitions, staffing, facility usage, and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and effective program delivery.
• Develops, manages, and monitors the budget, establishes financial goals, analyzes performance, and implements strategies to increase revenue while effectively managing expenses.
• Collaborates with YMCA leadership to market and promote gymnastics programs through outreach, special events, and member engagement.
• Builds and maintains positive relationships with participants, families, volunteers, schools, and community organizations while providing exceptional member service and effectively resolving concerns.
• Ensures gymnastics equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, and operational condition and ensures all programs comply with YMCA policies, risk management practices, and applicable safety standards.
• Recruits, develops, and supports volunteers while assisting with fundraising initiatives and special events that advance the YMCA's mission.
• Maintains accurate records, reports, certifications, statistics, and other documentation necessary for program evaluation, regulatory compliance, and association reporting.
• Demonstrates and promotes the YMCA's mission, vision, values, and culture while performing all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum five (5) years of progressive gymnastics coaching experience, including competitive gymnastics.
• Minimum three (3) years of program leadership, supervision, or management experience preferred.
• Current USA Gymnastics Professional Membership and applicable certifications, or the ability to obtain and maintain within a specified timeframe.
• Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of customer service and safety.

• Regular use of a computer, phone, and other office equipment.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, spotting participants, and moving throughout gymnastics facilities.
• Ability to demonstrate or assist with gymnastics skills as needed.
• Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds, including gymnastics equipment.
• Visual and auditory ability to supervise activities and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Ability to coordinate multiple priorities while maintaining a safe environment.
• Evening and weekend work required based on program needs.
• Noise level is moderate to high during program operation.
