Research and Development - F&B -- R0025289 Scientist Location: Mumbai Department: Research & Development Reports To: Job Summary: The position demonstrates a strong knowledge foundation in the principles and applications in food and beverage applications. Has significant delegated responsibility within the team on project delivery, but not full independence from management involvement. Applies a working knowledge & works on a wide range of problems and uses critical thinking to achieve solutions that support delivery of projects and portfolio range maintenance activities on time, within budget, and meeting the project brief. Plans and performs laboratory assignments, tests and assembles experimental apparatus, operates various machines and testing equipment in evaluation of products, records experimental data makes calculations and prepares reports covering work · Contributes to the design of technical projects and program proposals through regular communication on progress and completes assigned work set by manager and project teams. Designs and conducts experimentation using required equipment and instrumentation and may supervise laboratory work of technicians Key Responsibilities: Formulation Development: Accountable for delivery of technical solutions in regional portfolio range management projects including new to the world, new to the industry, continuous improvement, cost saving and regulatory/legislative change reasons. Accountable for quality of delivery and decision making. Works as part of a team of technical professionals to make sure project work is delivered to specification Works with suppliers to make sure development work is in compliance and meets cost targets In conjunction with marketing and project team members, maintains priority and sense of urgency in project work Informs R&D management on ability and requirements to meet priorities and project timing Works with extended R&D team to harmonize test methods regionally Essential Functions Builds competitive intelligence on science and technology in the areas of food and beverage applications Ensures compliance with corporate priorities Develops and deepens knowledge and expertise in formulation, methods and product development Determines project tasks related to laboratory experiments and customer trials. Is responsible for presenting data in an easy-to-understand format to peers. Writes project reports in a timely basis, making full use of IT tools. Actively participates in problem identification and process improvement Maintain laboratory equipment and work spaces to insure a safe productive work environment. Identifies modifications of test procedures within area of expertise. Operational activities Works with field sales managers, sourcing and Quality Assurance to deal effectively with complaints from the market Works on improved quality assurance systems, together with area expert centers and manufacturing sites to improve quality Supports implementation of new innovations, product improvements or changes into manufacturing Supports projects to deal with quality complaints or manufacturing issues as part of the transition from innovation development to technical range management or ongoing as part of a range management role Implement the latest IT tools to track all project work and keep our systems up to date Accountable for protecting company knowledge and intellectual property through proper reporting May be asked to take lead R&D role in working with regional and global marketing in technical assessment, competitive technical analysis Takes a proactive approach to initiating interactions with raw material management to prepare performance and cost effective product range Documentation Coordinate project activities within R&D project teams having internal shared details to deliver technical solutions on time and in full according to technical project plans Develop internal proprietary test procedures and methods to qualify and quantify product attributes, characteristics and benchmark performance To share information and reports with colleagues on outcomes, milestones and learning for mutual benefit and improvement of best practice Writing of formal technical reports on project milestones and completion Accountabilities Completes agreed development plan Provides information to team members and manager about actions and needs Focuses on tasks under his/her responsibility Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation to match agreed to targets. Maintains good relations among all employees · Creates a sense of participation and mutual respect · Qualifications Master’s Degree Specializations: Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals Food Biotechnology Sensory Sciences Under the technical guidance of team leader capable to perform independently routine scientific / application research tasks using standard techniques, procedures and equipment.
