About The Role

Amazon's Manufacturing Systems Engineering team is seeking an Industrial Design Engineer II (IDE II) to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will design manufacturing facility layouts, workstation configurations, and process environments supporting Amazon's advanced manufacturing operations — including the launch of our GIN1 facility and the expansion of MHE manufacturing and assembly operations at SEA109 and <BFI1.As> an IDE II, you are a significant and autonomous contributor. Your scope spans facility layout optimization, workstation and production line design, process simulation, and manufacturing infrastructure planning. You will own design packages from concept through implementation-ready documentation, delivering solutions that are scalable, ergonomic, and optimized for manufacturing throughput. Your designs directly enable the team's ability to launch new facilities on schedule and drive continuous improvement across existing operations.Key job responsibilitiesIn partnership with Process Engineering, Automation Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders, you will design manufacturing environments and own deliverables from concept through <implementation. You> will design facility layouts, production line configurations, and workstation environments for new and expanding manufacturing <facilities. You> will develop standard layout templates, workstation designs, and configuration patterns that can be leveraged across multiple programs and <sites. You> will demonstrate proficiency in cross-functional integration — understanding how material flow connects to workstation design, how equipment placement impacts process efficiency, and how facility infrastructure supports manufacturing <operations. You> will collaborate with Process Engineers on workflow optimization, with Automation Engineers on equipment integration, and with facilities teams on infrastructure <feasibility. You> will produce equipment specifications and space planning documentation to support procurement and facility build-out <activities. You> will conduct process simulation and spatial analysis to validate layout designs before <implementation. You> will manage design complexity across multiple concurrent programs — sequencing deliverables to align with project schedules without sacrificing design <quality. You> will develop design validation approaches (simulation, ergonomic analysis, prototype mockups) to prove solutions before <build-out.You> will support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying layout and process optimization opportunities at existing <facilities. You> will contribute to the evolution of manufacturing design standards and participate in design reviews.A day in the lifeDesign manufacturing facility layouts, workstation configurations, and production environments — owning deliverables from concept through implementation-ready documentation for new facility launches and existing site expansions. Collaborate with Process, Automation, and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure designs support operational workflows and equipment integration. Manage design deliverables across multiple concurrent programs, validate solutions through simulation and spatial analysis, and drive continuous improvement by identifying optimization opportunities across existing manufacturing operations.About the teamManufacturing Systems Engineering owns the design, build, and continuous improvement of Amazon's advanced manufacturing facilities. We are the engineering team responsible for transforming manufacturing concepts into operational reality — from facility layout and workstation design to process optimization and equipment integration. Our scope spans new facility launches (including GIN1) and ongoing expansion and improvement of existing manufacturing operations at SEA109 and BFI1, supporting MHE manufacturing and assembly programs. The team is in a high-growth phase, scaling to support dual-site operations with significant opportunity to shape manufacturing design standards and scalable solutions that will define how Amazon builds and operates its manufacturing capabilities.
