ALLI Associate Teacher, Secondary Division

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Avenues Language Learning Intensive (ALLI) is a program where a small team of colleagues works exclusively with a cohort of 6th–9th grade students. The program's mission is to sharpen and develop students' English reading, writing, and speaking skills through a project-based, interdisciplinary curriculum.

In this semester-long onboarding program, the ALLI Associate Teacher plays a key role in empowering language learners to find their voice and fully access the Avenues experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Interdisciplinary Co-Teaching: Partner closely with ALLI Teachers to design, enact, and refine projects that deepen student learning and connect language acquisition to real-world contexts.
• Drive Learning Outcomes: Ensure students achieve key outcomes by targeting instruction to address individual needs.
• Provide Targeted Support: Support students' linguistic needs across a range of ages and abilities using well-planned, evidence-based strategies.
• Build Classroom Culture: Help create a joyful, supportive, and appropriately challenging learning environment.
• Engage Families: Inspire trust and confidence among parents and families.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Our ALLI Associate Teachers at Avenues will bring all or most of the following

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Fluency in Portuguese is strongly favored.  Additional fluency or proficiency in Korean is a plus.
• Experience with language development and strategies to target specific support to different students, at different levels
• Interest and experience in teaching and assessing language acquisition 
• A strong ability to connect with students and support their development into passionate, curious and skillful readers and writers, by engaging them in interesting, meaningful and challenging work
• A creative mindset and ability to bring new ideas to fruition
• Intellectual curiosity and humility, to reflect on and continually grow in teaching practice
• A strong sense of personal responsibility for the success of every student
