The OR Equipment Technician II, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, will participate as an integral member of the patient care team. The OR Equipment Technician performs multiple support functions directed toward improved efficiencies in the OR and positive patient care outcomes.

  • Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated essential job functions and behaviors.
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the functioning of all service specific Entry Level and Specialized equipment such as: Robots, Microscopes Lasers and Ophthalmology Equipment.
  • Ensures essential equipment and supplies are brought into the OR using appropriate infection control standards.
  • Helps upload scans to navigation machine or download scans via Pacs
  • Assist in transferring equipment and supplies to and from all neighboring UCSF facilities.
  • Documents any equipment malfunctions in writing by completing a red tag and by creating an online service ticket. Remove equipment from service and take equipment to the Clinical Engineering office to get serviced.
  • Responds efficiently and effectively to all Surgeon/Nursing request for supplies and equipment and consults a supervisor if unsure about requests.
  • Transports specimens from the OR to the appropriate laboratory in a timely manner
  • Organizes and maintains equipment rooms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 1 year experience as an Equipment Technician
  • Recent experience in an Ambulatory setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Recent experience (within the last two years) working with Ophthalmology and OHNS service lines.
  • Ability to work independently with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to think critically and proactively to support the OR team.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to support multiple Surgeons and staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced complex environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must have manual dexterity to manipulate small equipment including, but not limited to, twisting bulbs, turning dials, changing batteries, and pushing buttons. Must be able to move in confined spaces. Must be able to repetitively lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Recent experience (within the last two years) working with microscopes, lasers, and robots.
  • Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification.
