Job Type: Full-Time

  • Shift: Second Shift | Monday-Friday, 4:00 PM-3:00 AM (Some Saturdays required)
  • Starting Pay: From $21.00 per hour (Higher pay available based on experience) + 10% Shift Differential

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Steel Fabrication & Assembly Technician to join a busy structural steel manufacturing team. This role focuses on fabricating and assembling structural steel components by interpreting fabrication drawings, preparing materials, and using a variety of shop equipment.

The ideal candidate has previous experience in a structural steel shop and is comfortable working with heavy materials while maintaining high standards for quality and safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret structural steel blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and layout details.
  • Fit and assemble structural steel components, including beams, columns, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metal products.
  • Perform measuring, layout, cutting, and assembly using standard steel fabrication methods.
  • Operate fabrication equipment such as ironworkers, magnetic drills (mag drills), band saws, grinders, plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches, and other shop machinery.
  • Prepare and tack structural steel assemblies before final welding.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and other material handling equipment to move heavy steel components.
  • Inspect measurements, alignment, fit-up, and squareness to ensure assemblies meet quality standards before welding.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while meeting production schedules.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of structural steel fitting or fabrication experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand structural steel blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience performing structural steel layout, fit-up, and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with fabrication equipment, precision measuring tools, and shop machinery.
  • Ability to handle heavy materials and remain on your feet throughout the shift.
  • Experience using overhead cranes and rigging equipment is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to workplace safety, and ability to work well with a team.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience performing Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) in a structural steel fabrication environment.
  • Ability to produce clean, high-quality FCAW welds on structural steel components.
  • Experience welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions using FCAW.
