Major Responsibilities

  • Supervises activities of the ultrasound staff and students daily. Monitors staff productivity, accuracy of exam protocols, and appropriate patient care.
  • Evaluates performance of personnel and recommends salary increases.
  • Counsels team members as necessary on professional performance and/or personal development.
  • Responsible for orientation of all new staff to include proper documentation. Performs competency checks of staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Schedules and rotates the ultrasound staff on a continuing basis. Approves PTO time for staff.
  • Updates the SOP manual with exam protocols through PRG. Interacts with the section chiefs concerning changes in protocols.
  • Participates in departmental QA program as needed.
  • Rotates emergency call schedule when needed.
  • Assists in operations as needed.
  • Organizes in-services for continuing education of the ultrasound staff.
  • Maintains professional and effective working relationships with all clinical areas, staff, physicians, and patients.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required

Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (S) required. BLS required.

Education Required

Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies up to 600 pounds with assistance.
  • Work requires walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting during normal operation.
  • Requires mental skills to read and comprehend patient orders and technical materials.
  • Motor coordination needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact sense of sight and hearing.

Education Preferred

Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes.

Certification/License Preferred

  • Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (S) required.
  • BLS required

Experience Preferred

A minimum of 3 years' experience in leadership is preferred.
