About The Role

In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for 1

Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/x) for the Gas System of the TRD in the CBM-FAIR Experiment

The FFN department pursues basic research in the field of hadron physics and is involved with major contributions in the development and construction of innovative gaseous tracking detector systems for experiments at the new Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt (Germany). The group develops and operates straw tracking detectors for various experiments at FAIR and investigates new straw detector technologies within the DRD1 collaboration at CERN, which is devoted to strategic R&D in gaseous detector technologies. For the new Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) in the CBM experiment a gas supply system has to be developed. The TRD operation requires an accurate regulation of the detector gauge pressure of the xenon-based gas mixture in a recirculating gas flow circuit with gas purification and xenon recuperation. The group conducts high-level research projects with world-wide recognition in the experimental particle physics community. The candidate will be expected to make a major contribution with a deep involvement in the setting up of the new CBM experiment at FAIR. It is expected that the candidate takes over an active role in the longer-term group’s research environment. The FFN group will move to a new institute building currently under construction on the Bochum university campus. Contribution and own ideas of the candidate in the planning and arrangement of equipment in the group’s new detector laboratories are highly welcomed.
