SPECIALIST ENGINEER (HV PLANNING) 33007724

Job Purpose

Directs professional engineering requirements and procedures to support functional areas and the strategic intent within the department, preparing and implementing contract terms and conditions that supports the Unit Asset Management Plan as well as increase financial viability of interventions in the public realm.

Key Responsibility Areas

•Study, evaluate and prepare opinions on the capabilities of the Department in terms of engineering infrastructure development and maintenance service delivery objectives outlined in the City’s Integrated Development Plan.

•Direct and lead professional project teams from inception to completion.

•Identify and develop key professional engineering skills through interviews, scrutinising portfolios and mentoring and coaching professional engineering personnel.

•Manage the principles and applications associated with the development and presentation of technical designs for complex forms of engineering works.

•Manage procedures associated with the preparation and collation of contract documentation and/or evaluating tender applications for complex engineering works.

•Define appropriate standards and controls the implementation/outcomes of a variety of complex forms of engineering contracts.

•Develop and execute an Asset Management Plan to support the broader Unit’s strategy.

•Disseminate information and formulate reports on the professional aspects of engineering design concepts, interventions and intervention outcomes on a variety of complex engineering works.

Essential Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (NQF Level 8) in

Electrical Engineering.

Registered as a Professional Electrical Engineer with the Engineering Council of

South Africa (ECSA).

Valid motor vehicle driving license.
7 years post registration experience in the Electricity Distribution or Transmission

industry.

Special Conditions

Appointment to Specialist Engineer level will be subject to applicants passing the
Internal Assessment Test.
