Technical Cost Estimator (CNC machining/precision manufacturing exp. req.) Description

Our client in precision manufacturing is looking for a Technical Cost Estimator to join their team in Mississauga, ON. You will turn engineering drawings and customer RFQs into cost models covering materials, CNC operations, tooling, labor, and outside processing. This role requires hands-on knowledge of CNC milling and turning, the ability to interpret GD&T drawings, and experience calculating manufacturing costs or process requirements. Candidates from estimating, process planning, manufacturing engineering, programming, or machining backgrounds will be considered. You will manage five to ten active RFQs, typically completing each within one to two weeks. Success requires sound numerical judgment, close attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate with engineering, production, purchasing, and suppliers. This is an opportunity to influence high-value, long-term manufacturing programs and potentially grow into a department leadership role.

Technical Cost Estimator (CNC machining/precision manufacturing exp. req.) Responsibilities

  • Translate drawings and specifications into complete manufacturing cost models • Calculate material, labor, setup, tooling, inspection, and machining costs • Estimate CNC milling and turning cycle times using drawings and shop data • Map practical operation sequences with engineering and production teams • Identify raw material and outside-processing needs for each opportunity • Request and assess supplier pricing, capability, and turnaround times • Build quotations in Excel and recommend pricing for management approval • Track several RFQs while meeting one-to-two-week response targets • Compare completed work with estimates to improve future quote accuracy • Maintain current pricing, assumptions, revisions, and job data in company systems

  • Quoting or cost estimating in precision manufacturing experience required • CNC milling and turning process knowledge required • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret GD&T required • Knowledge of cycle-times, tooling, and outside-processing required • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, specifically Excel, required
