About The Role
North Carolina Specialty Hospital is currently hiring PRN Respiratory Therapists for an Acuity Adaptable Unit.
Job Summary
The primary objective of this position is to assure the delivery of comprehensive, safe, effective, cost effective and appropriate respiratory care for patients across the age continuum, in accordance with established hospital policy and National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) best practice standards. Under minimal supervision, the incumbent will direct and/or provide professional respiratory care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum. Utilizes the respiratory care protocols for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to direct or provide respiratory care. May provide supervision and guidance to other team member(s), and may be authorized, in the absence of the manager, to make decisions affecting the Acuity Adaptable Unit (ICU).
Job Duties
Administer oxygen, medication, nebulized therapy and Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI), and incentive breathing devices
Perform nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning, CPR and Bag-mask ventilation, pulse oximetry monitoring, arterial blood gas punctures, bedside pulmonary mechanics, diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures, EKGs, and cardiac monitoring
Transport patients within the hospital as needed
Insert adjunct airways, insert and maintain artificial airways
Verify physician orders
Assure correct set-up, safety and function of all equipment/supplies necessary in the provision of patient care
Assure adherence to all infectious disease standards in the delivery of all patient care procedures
Recognizes life threatening situations and initiates appropriate response
Understands pharmacological indications, dosages and response to adverse drug reactions
Makes patient care assessments according to accepted protocols
Provides education to patients, families, physicians, nursing and other members of the health care team, as needed
Monitors response to all therapy
Performs documentation, as needed, in the patient medical record
Communicates & participates in all pertinent clinical information & quality improvement activities
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of respiratory equipment
Performs all additional job duties as needed and/or assigned within the scope of practice
Training, Education & Experience
- Graduate of a CoARC accredited school of Respiratory Care
- Certified by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory
- Therapist (RRT) * Possess an unencumbered North Carolina license to practice Respiratory Care
- Must be able to communicate and understand the English language both verbal and written.
- BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required upon hire,
- Minimum of three (3) years of intubation and ICU experience required. One (1) year of ISTAT experience preferred.
