The SVP of Practice Operations is responsible for managing, overseeing, and growing SP-owned and managed physician practices. The SVP of Practice Operations reports directly to the company’s COO and serves as SP’s senior operations and relationship leader for the practice relationships, helping practices improve day-to-day performance, build and nurture key relationships, develop and implement practice best practices and playbooks, set practice strategy and priorities, run high-value strategic projects, and support practice-related M&A efforts. This role partners closely with local market leaders, facility leaders, and several corporate functions. Their top goal is to ensure SP’s practices operate effectively, maintain strong physician alignment, grow, and support associated ASCs and hospitals where relevant.

- Maintain & strengthen key relationships with physicians and physician leaders across SP-owned practices
- Build and deploy clear practice management playbooks, processes, and operating expectations across practices
- Continue the evolution of the SP practice platform, focused on the implentation of an advanced operating model supporting both existing and potential practices
- Develop future-state practice strategy and identify top opportunities to improve practice performance and support associated facilities
- Run key improvement projects across practices (e.g., RCM optimization, access, schedule optimization) and support practice M&A assessment and prioritization
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage, oversee, and grow SP-owned physician practices
Help develop practice-level growth and performance goals (e.g., revenue, provider productivity, staffing, operational priorities) and track progress over time
Manage day-to-day performance across practices and help ensure practice leaders and administrators have clear priorities, expectations, and support
Identify top opportunities to improve practice growth, operational performance, and patient, physician, and staff satisfaction across the portfolio
Help ensure practices are able to support associated ASCs and hospitals where relevant (e.g., referral, scheduling, and operational coordination) Responsible for provider employment agreement review and approval
Develop and implement best practice processes and strategy
Build and roll out standard dashboards, practice processes, playbooks, tools, and materials across facilities where helpful
Set future-state strategy, goals, and operating model for Practice Operations
Help identify & prioritize the highest value strategic opportunities for practices via conversations & analysis; Collaborate with corporate functional teams on initiative planning and execution
Drive standardization across practices where helpful while preserving flexibility for local practice needs and physician dynamics
Collect & share practice performance insights, lessons learned, and best practices across practices and associated SP teams as helpful
Manage key practice relationships with physicians and practice leaders
Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, practice leadership, and relevant practice administrators
Act as the senior point of contact for more complicated practice relationship issues and help resolve challenges in partnership with local leaders and other teams as needed
Run recurring conversations with key practice leaders and physicians as helpful to surface issues, opportunities, and relationship dynamics early As needed, serve on practice governing boards and other committees to drive performance and strategy
Coordinate with Division Presidents, Market CEOs, and facility leaders to ensure practice priorities and physician relationship efforts are aligned where helpful
Support practice M&A
Support M&A functions by helping assess and prioritize practice M&A opportunities based on strategic fit, physician relationships, and operational opportunity
Build relationships with top M&A targets with practices and help support smooth coordination with relevant corporate teams
Work with other SP leaders to translate strategic practice opportunities into actionable plans with clear owners, timelines, and follow-through Partner with Corporate Integration team to plan and execute practice integration activities with a focus on timeliness, accuracy, and customer experience
Manage, support, and develop Practice Management team and local practice leadership
Lead the Practice Management team and ensure it has clear priorities, tools, and accountability
Support local practice leaders and administrators build out core capabilities as helpful (e.g., management, executive leadership); Help build stronger management capabilities across practices so practice performance becomes more consistent and proactive over time
Education
Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare practice management.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role.
License(s)/Certification(s)
- Fellowship in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) preferred.
- Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of healthcare operations, financial management, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead large teams and manage multiple priorities.
