Job Summary
As a Grapple Truck Operator, you'll play an important role in supporting railroad maintenance and operations by safely operating specialized equipment, inspecting trailers, and ensuring equipment is maintained and ready for service. This hands-on position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating heavy equipment, and contributing to the safe and efficient movement of materials throughout the rail network.

Responsibilities
Safely operate a grapple truck to support maintenance and material-handling operations complying with all federal, state and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations
Inspect trailers and components for compliance with DOT and company standards
Perform scheduled and on-demand maintenance activity
Perform a physical yard check to ensure all trailers in yard are listed and trailer numbers are correct
Complete reports, inspection forms, and required documentation
Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Full-time (40 plus hours weekly)
- Varying schedule in a 24/7 work environment that includes nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call as needed
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Walking on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders and equipment always ensuring three points of contact
- Able to squat, bend and lift overhead with extended periods of kneeling or crouching (bending at the knees)
- Frequent lifting of equipment and tools up to 76 pounds
Skills and Experience
- 2+ years of related rail industry work experience; 3+ years preferred or at least 1-3 years of previous grapple truck experience
- Other technical training, experience with heavy tools, or work in an outside environment are a plus
Required Education and Credentials
High school diploma or GED and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- RWP and EIC certification is a plus
- At least 18 years of age
Employment Requirements
- Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
- Subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
- Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history
Relocation
- Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate.
