About The Role

The Product Development Engineer I is responsible for designing refrigeration products. This will require designing coils, sizing components, designing mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring performance and compliance requirements are met, follow product development process, collaborate with external departments, support pilots, follow product development process, and meet design deadlines. The job also requires supporting lab testing and evaluation of lab data. The product development engineer also provides support to product engineering and other departments as needed. There may be occasional travel (less than 5%).

This position will serve Rheem North America and our HTPG Division , located in Scottsboro, AL.

  • Design new products or revise existing products to meet PDP requirements or special customer requirements.
  • CAD and LAB teams to deliver good performing designs in a timely manner.
  • Provide product information necessary for the information team to create product configurators with high BOM accuracy.
  • Assists applications, sales, and customers with technical product questions.
  • Qualify new vendor materials as needed.
  • Create wire diagrams.
  • Size components
  • Create PID diagrams for CAD and LAB use.
  • Design new features which provide excellent value, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Experience in 2D/3D modeling with tools such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc.
  • Working knowledge of UL/CSA requirements, engineering/manufacturing change processes, vapor compression, and heat transfer principles
  • Basic understanding of single and three phase power
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze empirical data for refrigeration systems
  • Experience with ERP/MRP engineering functions
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and presentation skills for interface with coworkers, managers, and customers

HOW TO STAND OUT

  • Advanced degree in Engineering
  • Experience in design and development of evaporators and/or condensing units for commercial refrigeration or air conditioning applications
  • Experience with Oracle ERP
  • Experience with Toyota Production System is a plus
