General Summary
- This position is a combination of work done as a Field Service Technician in the Field Operations department.
- Installs, maintains and services customer premises equipment. Typically installs cat5 wires, and network interface
- devices and performs initial wiring or rewiring for new and existing homes. Install and maintain ONT equipment for HSI.
Essential Job Functions
- Installs new services and equipment for subscribers by installing cat5 wires, and network interface devices.
- Wires new systems using appropriate tools within customers’ homes.
- Maintains and repairs existing services and equipment by using test sets and digital test equipment to locate
- line trouble. Determines necessary repairs which may include repairing wiring, ground connections, running
- new wires and replacing jacks, or replacing old jacks with new data jacks.
- Installs fiber jumpers in Central offices for Phone, and HSI.
- Is responsible for all paperwork involved with new or repair projects; this includes filling out employees
electronic timesheets, accounting for inventory used on the job, in the allotted time given.
- May confer with customers to further determine problems and acceptable resolutions.
- Locate underground Fiber facilities.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of test, switching and electronic equipment.
- Knowledge of voice communications and digital technology.
- Knowledge of RUS practices and standards.
- Knowledge of company products and services.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
- Skill in operating service equipment including various hand tools and testing equipment.
- Skill in reading cable records, staking sheets, specifications, and circuit diagrams.
- Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous
manner.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets and operating and maintenance
instruction manuals.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of telecommunications schooling or equivalent work
experience is helpful but not required.

Compensation
Hourly: $25 per hour
